Who Are You?

Affirmations & Reminders? Another blog post for the category? I had a completely different thought. Let’s read along.

The sun is perfect and you woke up this morning. You have enough language in your mouth, to be understood. You have a name, and someone wants to call it. Five fingers on your hand and someone wants to hold it. If we start there, every beautiful thing that has and will ever exist is possible. If we start there, everything for a moment, is right in the world ~ Warsan Shire

We are living in a digital age that perpetuates an ideal image and with that, connections can be so superficial. We are stimulated with current rationales of beauty, health, fitness, lifestyle + more – external factors that subconsciously creates waves of insecurity.

If someone were to ask you, “WHO ARE YOU?” I mean, really. “What would your answer be?” Have you ever thought about that? You are not your name, height, weight or gender and you are definitely not where you come from. You are your favorite songs, the books you’ve tucked into, the thoughts you have, the emotions you feel, the sun on your face, your soft blankets and what breakfast you choose to eat on the weekends. You are the past. You are the present. You are the future. You are a thousand things, but we live in a society that chooses to see the millions that you are not.

I could probably write for hours and hours but I will leave you with this: Don’t worry about what people think of you or about the way they try to make you feel. If people want to see you as a good person, they will. If they want to see you as a bad person absolutely nothing you do will stop them. Ironically, the more you try to show them your good intentions, the more reason you give them to knock you down if they are committed to misunderstanding you. Keep your head up throughout and be confident in what you do. Be confident in your intentions and keep your eyes ahead instead of wasting your time on those who want to drag you back. You can’t change people’s views, you have to believe that true change for yourself comes from within you, not anyone else.

The truth is, you can live. So tell me, WHO ARE YOU?

  1. I appreciate your reflection Aishwarya! I simply say I am who I am. I have value just for being me. Yes will tell you something about me, but I am more than that. We are more than the sum of our parts. I love people. I love to learn about myself and the world. I want to make the world a better place. I enjoy meeting new people. I live in Yorkton Saskatchewan Canada. But I am more than this. I appreciate your blog. I am going to repost this on my own blog. Thank you!

    1. It was good to know you on a personal and professional level. You have beautiful insights. Thank you so much for reading this blog post and sharing about yourself. Much appreciated!

I could feel kindness and inspiration from you. Thank you. ❤ Happy Easter! ❤

  2. Very nicely put!! I was planning to write on the same topic. But I don’t think I can write as well as you. Always love reading your posts 🙂

  3. You just gave me chance to show off.
I am collection few ideas and believes (I call it soul) taken a bodily form to establish the credibility of those ideas and believe through my actions.

  4. This question implies an intention from the person who ask. It prompts a question in return “What do you mean?” or “What do you want to know exactly”. Because, if the question is simply “Who” then the answer is simply “I”.

  5. Who am I? Just pure awareness… just one soul, who exists in time and space and is part of something much greater…. part of universal being.

Thank you for your insightful post!
    Sahara.

    1. You’re beautiful. I haven’t met you personally but this gesture proves it altogether. I’m in debt and very much thankful for you to show this support – just a share on your social media will be heart warming! Thank you! ❤

  7. Our true self cannot be expressed in words for words define, make categories, put labels, whereas we are alive and therefore changing. I can tell you the direction I’m headed for (Good) and something about the paths I follow–creativity, music, art, nature, making good use of the divine gifts we have all been given, ever striving to be more loving, more forgiving, less prejudiced, to maybe someday be melted into Life (God).

  8. I am something now, and I become something different tomorrow. I am different than I was yesterday. Why? Because I asked questions yesterday. I read something yesterday, and saw something yesterday that made me think deeper. I will ask more questions today, read more blogs and books and listen to more music and see more art and nature today and either build on or change what I was yesterday. I will grow and change minutely throughout my life. Everyone can do this, but some choose not to read, or listen, or ask. They will choose not to engage someone in conversation that is on a deeper level. They will choose not to try something new. They will find comfort in the well known and the banal. They will become more of what they were yesterday. That is fine for them, but I pity them nevertheless. When someone asks, “Who are you?” I ask back, “Now?”

    1. This was simply inspirational to read. The “now” at the end just struck a nerve. You’re absolutely right about what you just said. We keep adapting and learning and growing. Thank you so much for your words.
      Happy Easter! ❤ ❤

  9. This is so pretty, you’ve put into words so beautifully! Reminds me of a song by my favourite band- “who am I, when I don’t know myself? Who am I? Invisible.”

  10. Enjoyed your post – thanx for giving everyone permission to be themselves. I would love to let you know who I am once I know, but I’m still looking (and every time I think I have myself nailed down, the devil somehow squirms out from under again, and I have to start over. Oops – there he goes again…)
