“The art of thinking is the greatest art of all, for ‘as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.’ The thinker knows he is today where his thoughts have taken him and that he is building his future by the quality of the thoughts he thinks.” ~ Wilfred Peterson, The Art of Living

I have an exercise for you to do tomorrow morning when you wake up.

Before you moan and groan about exercise, I’m not talking about some sort of physical exercise.

Instead, a mental exercise.

When you wake up tomorrow morning, say to yourself, “I’m a positive person.” 3 times.

“I’m a positive person.”

“I’m a positive person.”

“I’m a positive person.”

Then go about your day the usual way you would.

At this point, you might be thinking to yourself, umm… okay?

Mindset is everything. Everything is in the mind. Let that sink in, take your time!

Having a strong mental game is as important as having skills or talents. Positive thinking has been proven to lead to more success than negative thinking.

While this probably sounds good in all, let’s dive a little deeper here into the power of positive thinking.

Our Minds are Incredibly Powerful –

There are certainly days where I’m sitting at work or at home and I think to myself, why am I so dumb? Why can’t I do anything right? Why am I doing the things I’m doing?

When I have moments like this, I pause.

I’ve gotten to where I have because of my dumb brain.

Thinking back to childhood, I used to not know much at all. Over time, I’ve filled my brain with (maybe not) important concepts and information to help me during my daily tasks.

Our minds are incredibly powerful and can quite literally create its own reality.

The power of positive thinking can manifest itself in living the life that you want to live.

Telling yourself you are a positive person will result in you becoming a more positive person.

You are what you say you are.

Saying, “I’m a negative person who can never accomplish anything” is a reinforcing trap. Saying this sort of thing will result in you being a negative person who will never accomplish anything.

Likewise, telling yourself, “I’m a positive person who can accomplish anything” will lead to accomplishments beyond your wildest dreams.

The human mind has a way of creating its own view of the world and through this view, that is the world.

“Our mind is the foundation of all our actions, whether they are actions of body, speech, or mind, i.e., thinking. Whatever we think, say, or do arises from our mind. What our consciousness consumes becomes the substance of our life, so we have to be very careful which nutriments we ingest.” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh, Savor

Mindset is Everything –

Consistent efforts added up over time WILL lead to amazing success and results. This sentence is one of my driving forces in life.

Many people, myself included, deal with a lack of consistency.

3 times working out one week and only 1 the next. Maybe the week after 0 times and the week after that 2 times. Results I wanted probably won’t come from this, unfortunately.

With mindset, this inconsistency can be avoided.

Saying “I’m a person who is consistent and does not procrastinate.” will affect your actions.

It’s a tough world out there, but with our words and powerful mind, we can accomplish a lot.

While things may not have gone to plan in the past, that’s okay.

Having a strong mindset is accepting the past for what it is and moving on to bigger and better things.

Work on Mindset a Little Bit Each Day –

When I was younger playing sports (you know, the kind of sports you play with your friends when you’re eight or nine years old), I didn’t have a strong mental game. I’d let things get into my head and couldn’t let them go.

My dad always harped on me to try to not let those emotions get the best of me. I had to look inwards and seek out the answers. I had to tap into my powerful mind to control the emotions of anger and sadness and funnel them towards performance.

It took a number of years, but over time, I was able to control my emotions and understand that bad things happen. Good things also happen. If I could stay level headed – not get too high or too low – I’d see more success.

It’s okay to not be okay. But don’t stay in that state for too long.

Emotional intelligence and this understanding of tapping into my powerful mindset has allowed me great success. By using affirmations and positive thinking, anything you can dream is in reason to go after.

Work on mindset a little bit each day and see where it takes you. It has helped me and I’m hopeful it will help you.

  1. I heard a story once about a famous actor that took place while he was still waiting tables. Everyone told him he’d never make it, so one day he wrote himself a check for one million dollars. He put it in his wallet, and every-time he felt low or had blown an audition or whatever, he’d take it out and look at it and say, “One day I’ll walk into the bank and cash you.” And one day he got the right break, and his price and demand just kept going up and up.

And one day, he did walk into the bank and cashed the check.

Now, that’s always a reminder to set yourself a goal, and think in positive terms regarding your dream.

I stole his idea, but multiplied my check by a factor of ten.

    1. The actor was Jim Carrey and the check he wrote was for $10 million dated 10 years in the future. In the memo, he wrote, “for acting services rendered”. When the check reached its date, he was making $20 million per film. It is a great example of how we can hack our mind to help us achieve great things.

  2. “neurons that fire together, wire together” negative stimuli produce more neural activity than do poisitive ones. They are also perceived more easily and quicker. Repition is the key to learning and or training ones brain. Be a Yes person! And remember, it’s I’m possible and not impossible! On another note though, a battery has a positive and a negative pull or poll or position. Without both, it wouldn’t be a battery, it just wouldn’t work. Remaining positive and or only thing king just positive is almost an impossibility, ALMOST. For me, I allow the negativity to come but also let go of it just as fast!
