Of Pretend Truth & Reality

“I feel like having a Mojito”, to “I will just be as cool with a lime soda”; these two dialogues may be said by different people or the chances of saying it by a single human are also not to be ignored. The kind of hypocrisy existing in our society is something of an amusing film which we enjoy watching and making fun at the same time.

I recently was on a trip where I encountered two people, a man and his lady, at Delhi International Airport. From the looks of it, they were recently back from Singapore. How do I know they were at that particular place? Well, that lady wouldn’t just shut-up about praising oh-so-loudly for the glorious Lion City she had just returned from only a few minutes ago. Not to forget, mentioning the name “Singapore” in every sentence possible. The sheer exaggeration and her way of showing off caught my attention.

 

 

 

 

So, it was 8 a.m. in the morning and my brother and I decided to get coffee. Let’s face it, when there’s a whole day of work ahead, you have to get that energy booster. My brother was just about to pay the cashier when this lady finds her way through the crowd and lands at the nearby duty-free Louis Vuitton. I was then wondering what could she have to do there. Not to forget the way she pronounced it “luiss veeton.”

After buying the bag she was then returning to go back to her man. At that point, even I was enjoying my coffee sharing a laugh with my brother knowing what was going on.

We came back and sat in our seats. That lady was also getting ready to leave the premises since her significant other had already checked out their luggage and had also booked a taxi.

Thanking God that I was understanding a language they were speaking, I overheard her saying that she couldn’t spend so and so money on breakfast and that booking a taxi was irrelevant since the rickshaw cost would’ve been much cheaper. I looked at my brother and caught him looking back at me and we both laughed a little louder.

Maybe she wanted to feel a little more of herself in front of her friends and family, but why? My Father says people eventually admire and respect the ones who are original and not pretending to be someone or something else altogether.

At that very moment, I had a rush of thoughts and incidents coming back to me from the past.

We all have people like these in our lives, don’t we?

Why is there a need to show off to everyone around you when people really know what you are. Trust me, even if they don’t, eventually the truth speaks for itself. Just be yourselves and let the world love you for who you are and not what you pretend to be.
